How should my app respond to a health check?

Talk abstract
Health checks are a common part of server software runtime. The patterns and technologies around it are well documented, but there’s not many answers to one question: how should my app respond to a health check? In this talk, I’ll explore things that can influence your app health check design.

Talk description
Health checks are a common part of server software runtime. They are a simple and effective way to manage server app lifecycle. The patterns, APIs, and technologies around it are well documented, but there’s not many answers to one question: how should my app respond to a health check? In this talk, I’ll explore things that can influence the design of your app’s health check. I’ll first introduce the health check pattern and how it’s typically used. I’ll then explore how the context in which applications operate in has an impact on health check design, and what general technology agnostic guidelines you can apply for your own software.
